Drifting Drone

The "Drifting drone" was an interactive audio/visual installation based on a combination of tones which had a graphical representation projected on a wall. A box with two levers gave the visitor the possibility to change the pitch of the tones - which also affected the graphical pattern in real-time.

I wanted to bring life to this simple combination of tone generators, first by giving them "a body" via the graphical patterns, and then by awakening some kind of responsibility in the visitor to steer the drone to a nice place. This since it had no "home" or default position (no scale or frequency limits). The drone always stayed right where it was left - waiting for the next visitor to take it for a ride.

Drifting drone Full pull 06

The Drifting drone was displayed at Full Pull 2006, a festival in Malmö for experimental music and art. That year, Rooseum art gallery hosted the festival. Interactivesound was invited, and since I took part in a sound design course that they arranged in collaboration with Kristianstad university, I had an oppurtunity to participate in some way.
